Jim and Elisabeth Elliot; Two Lives Devoted to God and Each Other

I grew up reading their story in books, hearing her voice on the radio, and even seeing her speak in person once. My life has been greatly impacted by the legacy and testimony of Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. As a wife and mother I have often drawn strength from the writings of Elisabeth Elliot as I am sure many of you have as well.

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 153: Interview with Valerie Shephard (Part 1)

It was a great joy to interview Jim and Elisabeth Elliot’s daughter Valerie Shephard and hear her tell the story of her parents’ devotion to God and to each other. Valerie is the mother of eight grown children and the author of the book Devotedly which tells the love story of her parents. I know you will enjoy hearing this inspiring testimony of what God did through the lives of two people whose hearts were completely devoted to Him.

May we never underestimate what God can do in and through our families if we too will live our lives completely and totally devoted to His Lordship.

The Fruit of the Spirit is Faithfulness

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 147: The Fruit of the Spirit is Faithfulness

Hello Friends! As we look at our current culture it seems there is a severe shortage of faithfulness both in individuals and families. When you read about one more influential leader caught in sin do you ever ask yourself who you can really trust? We can take heart and be encouraged when we meditate on the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise the Lord, all nations!
    Extol him, all peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord! Psalm 117:1-2 ESV

As followers of Christ we are to be in the process of transformation becoming more like Him. As we walk with Christ He develops the fruit of His Spirit in us making us a more faithful people. The result is more faithfulness in singleness, in marriage, in parenting, in serving, and in sharing the gospel. May the Lord continue His work of sanctification in us to the praise of His glory.

On this week’s episode of the Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast we are talking about God’s faithfulness in and through us.

Concerns for the Times

Hello my friends and welcome back to this week’s episode of the “Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast.” Today I am talking about my personal concerns for the times we find ourselves living in. Additionally I will be addressing my grief over how many young people are walking away from the faith.

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 118: Concerns For the Times

This is a serious issue; the lure of the world and the tides of evil are strong. Now is the time for Christian parents to be crying out to God to do a mighty work in our homes as we pray for true gospel transformation in the hearts of our young people.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.  II Timothy 3:1-5

Steadfast Women

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 114: Remaining Steadfast Through Trials

The culture surrounding us tells us to be strong, determined, tough women. Even much of Christian culture shouts this message. Sadly these messages are often referring to being strong in our own strength rather than putting on the full armor of God and allowing His strength to flow through us. Remember Paul said, “Not I but Christ.”

I do not like the world’s philosophy of women being strong, competitive, and tough. Instead I like the word steadfast. I want to be a steadfast woman. I want the strength of the Lord to flow through me so that I have strength of character and steadfastness for the journey. Basically I want to stay the course and run the race well. Certainly that ability and strength only comes through Christ in me.

This is the topic of today’s Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast. You can listen here or hop over to iTunes where you can subscribe to the weekly podcast.

In a world of unrest and uncertainty I am encouraged to remember that it is He who will hold us fast. As we walk with Him day by day, He will sustain us and give us the steadfastness we need to finish well.

The Lord our Protector

Welcome back to the Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast available through this sound bar and also over at iTunes. Today we are talking about God being our refuge, protector, and strong tower during current events happening in our nation.

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 109: The Lord Our Protector

I hope this episode will be a strength to your heart and a blessed reminder that if God is for us, who can be against us. There is much trouble abounding, and yet God has not fallen off of His throne. He sits exalted in the heavens and is still Sovereign over our lives. We can trust in Him and look up fixing our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen.

These troubling times are an opportunity for us to remember that this world is not our home and to live intentionally in light of eternity. I always love to hear from my listeners, so please reach out. You can connect with me in multiple ways:

Discussing Motherhood with Valerie Elliot Shepard

Legacy Homeschool Reflections Podcast 105: Discussion on Motherhood with Valerie Shepard

Hello Friends, I hope that you were able to hear the podcast episode last week where I talked to Valerie Elliot Shepard, daughter to missionaries Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. If you did not hear that episode, I encourage you to go back and listen. It was so interesting to hear Valerie share about the love story of her parents and God’s faithfulness in their lives.

This week I am shifting gears and talking with Valerie about the holy and privileged calling of motherhood. Valerie is the mother to eight grown children and eight grandchildren. As you can imagine she has much seasoned advice to share, and I know you are going to be blessed!

I encourage you to check out the many books Valerie’s mother Elisabeth Elliot wrote and definitely to pick up your copy of Valerie’s new book “Devotedly” It is a gem of a book telling the story of her parents’ courtship and of their devotion to God and to one another. You can find Devotedly at http://devotedlybook.com and also on Amazon.
